SOPHIE THE GRADUATE

I went to Mum's graduation. I went to the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre at Manukau on Tuesday 26th May 2009. The Graduation started at 5.30 and was a really long night, but I still had a smile for the camera when we got home. My sister and I tried mums graduation clothes on.

Next Week

A reminder that it is the Queen's Birthday Public Holiday this upcoming Monday.

On Thursday, we'll be having a Kapa Haka performance by a visiting Intermediate school.

On Friday, the Junior School is having Cross Country. Times to be announced. Please ensure that your Room 18er comes to school on Friday with a change of mufti clothes (that are alright to get muddy!) and suitable shoes. Without a change of clothes and suitable running shoes, students will become designated cheerleaders only. 2-4-6-8, who do we appreciate? Students who have brought all their required clothing! goooOOOO ROOM 18!

DISCO TONIGHT!

As mentioned in the newsletters sent home over the past few weeks, tonight is the Survival Disco! Juniors are from 6pm-7:15pm and Seniors are from 7:30-9pm. If you haven't already bought your $2 ticket yet, they can be bought at the door tonight. The tuck shop will be open, selling lollies, drinks, and glow-stuff! If you can, please come dressed in a costume with the theme 'Survival'. Prizes will be awarded! Hope to see everybody there tonight!

Joel W and Ginger This Time!

Dear Ginger,

I took a photo. "Sit Stiney!" I held onto Stiney's chin when the photo was taken. She walked away! "Come back, Stiney! You are awesome!" I hoped it would be a good photo.

Today's Funky Monkeys

Today, Room 18 saw a performance put on by the Funky Monkeys. They were sponsored by World Vision and brought messages of giving to others who are less fortunate than ourselves. The website mentioned by the Funky Monkeys is now linked from our blog under the 'General' links. Their website includes one of the songs performed by the group available for free download!

Today's Maths

Today, Tahi took photos of the 2D shapes they've been learning about lately.

A square picture on our Writing wall.

A rectangle on our Maths wall.

Rectangles as our computer monitors.

A piece of plastic as a diamond.

A magnet as a circle.

And Another!

We're celebrating the SECOND overseas visitor to our blog. A visitor from the United States of America has now seen/heard amazing work by Room 18! YAY! Check it out again on the map at the bottom of this page!

Mr. Nash

Funky Monkeys

As shown on the Google Calendar for Room 18, we have the Funky Monkeys coming tomorrow morning! We'll be in the auditorium from 9:30am onwards. Parents, please feel free to speak to me tomorrow morning if you'd like to come with us to watch the show. It's free!

Mr. Nash

Mr. Nash Goes Primetime...

I will not be at school next Tuesday...but hopefully Room 18 will be silently cheering me on throughout the day because I'll be filming as a contestant on the Wheel of Fortune! Yes, I'm ALL for educational game shows. Wish me luck! (And no, I will NOT be sharing any money afterwards!) (-;

Mr. Nash

Today's Maths

Two Maths groups (Rua and Toru) put their new-found 3D shapes knowledge to good use around the room. They had a good hunt around for everyday objects in Room18 that used known 3D shapes and then they used their digital camera skills to take photos!

This is what Rua found...

Cubes as dice.

Pyramids in a computer game we play.

Rectangular Prisms as a ruler.

Spheres on our abacus.

This is what Toru found...

Spheres on our abacus.

A rectangular prism as our our recycling box.

Cylinders in our pencils.

More cylinders on the Throne!

Cubes in our unifix blocks box!

Have a look around at home for more 3D shapes. They are hidden all over the place!
